This ready-to-use conserve is a great gift idea!
3 cups fresh bing cherries, halved and pitted
1 ½ cups sliced strawberries [248 g]
3 cups sugar [600 g]
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tbsp grated lime rind
1/3 cup chopped walnuts if desired [33 g]
Combine cherries, strawberries, sugar, lime juice, lime rind and ¼ water in a heavy saucepan. Cook over low heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to moderate, bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, until thick, about 25 to 30 minutes.
If desired, add walnuts about 5 minutes before conserve is done. Ladle into hot, sterilized jars to ¼-inch of top. Seal and cool.
