Be sure to make these filling and flavorful Spicy Grilled Steak Nachos for your team's next big game!
Everyone knows how much I love football, and football season is definitely in full swing right now! Between watching my son play on Friday nights, and watching my favorite college and NFL teams play on the weekends, I get my fill that's for sure. And you know what goes hand in hand with football watching right? FOOD! Whether it's tailgating with our friends on Friday nights, or homegating on the weekends with my family before a big game, I love football food.
I take advantage of the nice weather as long as I can and I grill a lot of my tailgating recipes. Lots of times I'll make traditional burgers or brats, even sometimes chicken, but one of my favorites is grilled steak nachos. I love Mexican food, and nachos are one of my favorites! I recently stumbled across El Yucateco Hot Sauces and fell in love. Believe me when I say they are very spicy! But they work perfectly in the marinade I make for these delicious nachos.
My oldest son loves spicy foods, so the last time I was at Walmart I grabbed all three bottles of the El Yucateco for him to try. Each one has its one flavor profile, but El Yucateco is made with fresh habanero peppers and has less vinegar than your average hot sauce. For my steak nachos, I decided to make my marinade with the Green Habanero Hot Sauce. It has a crisp flavor and although it's a bit hotter than the red sauce, I thought it would be perfect for this dish.
The steak doesn't take long to cook at all, and comes out juicy and slightly spicy once it's sliced up. Perfect on the nachos!
Melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa and sour cream loaded on top and you've got a perfect platter of tailgating food that everyone will love.
Are you ready for some football? (And to make some nachos?!)
Spicy Grilled Steak Nachos
Author: Sarah Bates | The Chef Next Door
Serves 4Ingredients:
2 tablespoons El Yucateco Green Habanero Hot Sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons lime juice (from about one whole lime)
1 garlic clove, grated
1/4 teaspoon salt
1.25 lb. chuck sirloin steak
2/3 bag of thin, crispy tortilla chips
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, salsa and sour cream, for topping
In a small bowl whisk together the El Yucateco Green Habanero Hot Sauce, olive oil, lime juice, garlic and salt. Place the steak in a resealable plastic bag, pour the marinade in the bag, and seal it tightly. Turn the bag over a few times and massage the marinade on both sides of the meat. Refrigerate and allow to sit for up to two hours.
Preheat the grill to high. Remove the steak from the marinade and place it on the grill, cooking on the first side for about 8 minutes. Turn it over and continue cooking for another 5-8 minutes, or until it reaches your desired degree of doneness. Remove the steak from the grill and allow it to rest for at least 5 minutes before thinly slicing.
Preheat the broiler to high. Place the tortilla chips in a single layer on a baking sheet. Lay slices of steak all over the chips, then sprinkle with the shredded cheese. Put the pan in the oven until the cheese is melted and the chips are starting to get crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
Sprinkle the shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes all over the warm nachos. Place dollops of salsa and sour cream on top, if desired. Serve immediately.
Bon Appétit!
